Teaser trailer sets Jan. 2 release date
Nike confirmed the public launch date for the Nike Book 2 with a teaser trailer released Monday. The short film frames Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker as a low-profile professional preparing for a covert mission — and reveals the shoes are central to his toolkit.

Trailer scenes and narration
In the teaser, a narrator intones, “Eventually, everyone needs a professional. Whether he’s your first option or your last shot, they always call his number,” as Booker receives a call and heads to a basement to gear up. The trailer uses early-1990s tech visuals — a nod to Booker’s 1991 birth year — and shows Booker opening a briefcase to reveal the Book 2 sneakers.
The trailer leans into a cinematic vibe: “That’s why he keeps a low profile, locks it down in isolation,” the narrator says. “When he catches ’em slipping’ — and he always catches ’em slipping — pull up. Bang. Game time.”
Design evolution: lower profile, forefoot Air Zoom
Nike has kept several street-to-court elements from the original Book but tuned the shoe’s performance for Booker’s preferences. Ben Nethongkome, lead designer for Booker’s signature line, said the Book 1 was inspired by classic cars — innovation hidden under a timeless exterior — and that approach carried into Book 2.
“For the Book 1, we were inspired by classic cars, where the engine is supercharged and tuned up but the outside looks classic,” Nethongkome said. “That approach cascaded to the Book 2, cloaking the innovation underneath. We lowered the profile of the shoe for enhanced court feel, and because we removed materials to get lower to the ground, we were able to move the Air Zoom unit from the heel to the forefoot — achieving Devin’s desired feel and performance at a lighter weight.”
Lowering the profile aims to give players more court feel and quicker response, while the forefoot Air Zoom is meant to deliver a snappier, more responsive ride for takeoffs and cuts.
What to expect at launch
Nike will make the Book 2 available to the public beginning Friday, Jan. 2. Official images and release information were first revealed in November; the new teaser expands on the shoe’s narrative and performance aims. Expect additional colorways, official retail pricing, and availability details from Nike ahead of the launch.
