Netflix trailer pulls back curtain on America’s Next Top Model documentary
Netflix on Monday released the trailer for Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, a new docuseries that digs into the making—and the fallout—of the long-running reality competition. The trailer includes candid interviews with host Tyra Banks, judges and producers, and revisits some of the show’s most controversial moments.
Tyra admits she crossed a line
In one of the trailer’s most striking clips, Banks says plainly, “I knew I went too far.” The series frames that line against scenes of intense production decisions and photo shoots that pushed contestants to dramatic extremes. Banks also reflects on the show’s pace, saying, “It was very, very intense. But you guys were demanding it and so we kept pushing … more and more and more.”
What the documentary promises
Directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, Reality Check features interviews with former contestants (including Whitney Thompson, Dani Evans and Giselle Samson), judges and producers such as Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker. Manuel tells the cameras, “We were showing the behind-the-scenes of what the fashion world was,” while also acknowledging how far creators went for the show’s success.
The trailer revisits controversial moments familiar to long-time viewers—most notably a photo shoot that had models switch ethnicities—and positions those episodes within a larger conversation about the ethics of reality TV production.
Why it matters now
America’s Next Top Model ran for 24 seasons from 2003 to 2018 and helped launch several careers. As streaming platforms revisit major reality formats, this documentary arrives at a moment when audiences and former participants are re-examining how reality TV is produced and the costs for contestants.

The series markets itself as an “unprecedented” examination of both the spotlight and the chaos behind it.
Whether you loved ANTM for its fashion moments or questioned its production choices, Reality Check promises a deeper look at a show that helped define 2000s reality TV.
