An Oakdale-based licensed nurse practitioner is facing serious charges after an investigation into Medicare fraud and the unlawful distribution of prescription drugs, according to the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO).
Allegations of Fraud and Theft
Allison Jill Miller, 36, was arrested and booked into the Allen Parish Jail following an investigation that began in October. Authorities were looking into allegations of fraud when they uncovered a scheme involving prescription medications.
Investigators learned that Miller was allegedly using her position as a nurse practitioner to prescribe medications to various patients. However, instead of the patients receiving the drugs, Miller is accused of retrieving the prescriptions from the pharmacy herself.
Multiple Felony Charges
As a result of the investigation, Miller faces a total of 12 felony counts:
- Four counts of Medicaid fraud
- Four counts of identity theft
- Four counts of unlawfully prescribing, distributing, dispensing, or assisting in illegally obtaining drugs
Ongoing Investigation
The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office made the arrest on Wednesday. As of now, Miller’s bond has not been set.
