H2: Reed announces return to PGA Tour
Former Masters champion Patrick Reed confirmed to ESPN that he is leaving LIV Golf and plans to return to the PGA Tour later this season. Reed, who won the 2018 Masters, said family considerations and a desire to “play the grind” again helped shape his decision.

Reed posted on X: “I m a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA TOUR. I can t wait to get back out there and revisit some of the best places on earth.”
H3: Eligibility and timeline
The PGA Tour announced Reed will be eligible to return on Aug. 25, 2026 — roughly one year after his last LIV start. That date makes him eligible to try for FedEx Cup Fall events this season. As a nonmember, Reed will attempt to gain entry into fields through open qualifiers and sponsor exemptions.
Reed will also be eligible for a potential captain s pick on the 2026 U.S. Presidents Cup team.
H3: What Reed must do to regain full status
Reed has requested his PGA Tour membership be reinstated for the 2027 season as a past champion. He can improve his standing in a few ways: winning a tournament this fall, or finishing in the top 10 of the DP World Tour s Race to Dubai. At the time of the announcement, Reed sat No. 2 in Race to Dubai points.
Under the terms of his return, Reed will forfeit player equity in PGA Tour Enterprises through 2030.
H3: Recent form and schedule
Reed won the Dubai Desert Classic on the LIV circuit and said after that victory he felt like a free agent and had missed the competitive grind. He is scheduled to play the Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour this week and has made multiple starts on the Asian and DP World tours.
Ranked 29th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Reed holds lifetime entry to the Masters and is likely to appear in the four majors regardless of tour affiliation.
H3: Wider context in a shifting golf landscape
Reed is the latest high-profile player to move back toward the PGA Tour after joining LIV in 2022. Five-time major winner Brooks Koepka returned earlier in January through the Tour s Returning Member Program. The PGA Tour memo to members stressed a consistent, policy-based reinstatement process and noted the window for LIV golfers to apply under the program closes Feb. 2.
Reed said he loved his time on LIV and gained close friendships there, but family and competitive priorities led him home. His return marks another notable development as players weigh opportunities across competing circuits.
