Kalamazoo native skates for Lithuania at Milan-Cortina
Allison Reed, born in Kalamazoo in 1994, is representing Lithuania in ice dance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. Reed teamed up with Lithuanian partner Saulius Ambrulevičius in 2017 and the pair have skated together for nearly a decade, earning Grand Prix medals and a European Championships bronze in 2024.
Rhythm dance: solid start with room to climb
In the Olympic rhythm dance on Feb. 9, Reed and Ambrulevičius scored 82.95 and stood seventh overall after the first segment. The pair will return to the ice for the free dance on Feb. 11, aiming to move up the leaderboard and contend for a podium spot for Lithuania.
Journey to competing for Lithuania
Reed’s path to representing Lithuania included a change of citizenship. A Japanese-American by heritage, she previously represented Georgia at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in ice dance. Reed didn’t obtain her Lithuanian passport in time for the 2022 Beijing Olympics, but she secured Lithuanian citizenship in 2024, allowing the duo to qualify for Milan-Cortina.
Her hometown is listed as Elk Grove, Illinois on the International Skating Union roster, and she trained for years in Canton — where she first met Ambrulevičius.
Family of skaters
Figure skating runs in Reed’s family. Her siblings, Chris and Cathy Reed, were also born in Kalamazoo and represented Japan as an ice dance team for more than a decade. Allison, Chris and Cathy all competed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics; Chris and Cathy later skated at the 2014 Sochi Games. Chris Reed died unexpectedly in 2020 after suffering a heart attack in Detroit.
What’s next
With the free dance scheduled for Feb. 11, Reed and Ambrulevičius will attempt to build on their rhythm dance score and improve Lithuania’s standing in Olympic ice dance. The pair served as Lithuania’s flagbearers at the opening ceremony, underscoring their status as the country’s top ice dance team.
Reed’s presence at Milan-Cortina highlights a multinational career — born in Michigan, once an Olympian for Georgia, now representing Lithuania on sport’s biggest winter stage. Her story underscores how international partnerships and dual citizenship shape modern figure skating careers.
