HBO greenlights season 4 after Mike White’s pitch
HBO confirmed a fourth season of The White Lotus after creator Mike White pitched new ideas during production of season 3. CEO Casey Bloys flagged the network’s willingness to proceed, and an official renewal followed in January 2025.
Confirmed cast and early talks
The first actors officially joining The White Lotus season 4 are Alexander Ludwig (known for Vikings) and AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs). Deadline also reported in December that Helena Bonham Carter is in early talks for a starring role, though HBO declined to comment. As in previous seasons, Mike White appears set to assemble a largely new ensemble, while leaving the door open for a few returning characters.
Potential returning faces
Sources suggest that some survivors from earlier seasons could reappear. Names discussed include Jon Gries’s Greg and Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda (and Belinda’s son Zion, played by Nicholas Duvernay). Nothing is confirmed, but their storylines leave room for future returns.
France emerges as likely setting
HBO executive Francesca Orsi said in February that the production would be scouting locations and that Europe was “likely.” On 4 September, Deadline reported that France had been chosen as the next season’s primary country, pointing to multiple Four Seasons properties as possible backdrops: the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera, Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, and Four Seasons Hotel Megève.
An urban main setting would mark a change for the series, which has favoured resort and beach locations in past seasons. Sources caution no hotel is locked in and the show often uses multiple properties in a single season.
Behind the scenes: a key departure
Composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, whose eerie theme became synonymous with The White Lotus, confirmed he and White parted ways after a long-running creative struggle. Tapia de Veer spoke to The New York Times about the split; White later responded on Howard Stern defending his creative notes and process. The show will proceed without Tapia de Veer, so a new opening theme is expected.
When to expect season 4
With locations still being finalised and production set to begin next spring, a 2027 release is the earliest realistic window. HBO executives have suggested Mike White may continue beyond a fourth season, and White has floated the idea of an “all-star” edition in future installments—though scheduling big-name alumni could prove difficult.
For now, fans can look forward to a fresh setting, a new lead ensemble, and the next chapter of White’s satire when production ramps up in the coming year.
